CINE ANNOUNCES THE 2008 MASTERS SERIES GOLDEN EAGLE AWARD WINNERS

CINE’s Golden Anniversary Awards Gala at Washington’s brand-new Newseum was a resounding success, with 250 members of the film and video community in attendance. The festive evening began with a reception at the Newseum’s 7th floor terrace, overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue. The reception featured catering by Wolfgang Puck and a stunning view of the U.S. Capitol. In attendance were television journalist Gwen Ifill, on hand to receive CINE’s Trailblazer Award, and Actor Edward James Olmos, who was given CINE’s Lifetime Achievement Award, along with many other film and television luminaries.

The Awards Ceremony followed in the Newseum’s state-of-the-art Walter and Leonore Annenberg Theatre. CINE Board President Donald Thoms kicked off the ceremony with an opening speech, and Jack Hurley, Senior Vice-President of Broadcasting and Deputy Director of the Newseum graciously made welcoming remarks. Returning for his 17th year as Master of Ceremonies was Today Show Correspondent Bob Dotson. In addition to the honorary awards given to Ms. Ifill and Mr. Olmos, CINE’s Masters Series Awards were presented to winners in five divisions for 2007 and 2008. Longtime CINE sponsor Henninger Media Services awarded a grant to the top prize-winning filmmakers in the Independent Division, while Kodak and new sponsor Chubb presented generous scholarships to the Award of Excellence winners in the Student Division. The presentation of awards was interspersed with a production including clips from the award-winning films and video tributes celebrating CINE’s 50th anniversary from the film and television communities including CINE Golden Eagle winners Ken Burns, Stanley Nelson and Steven Spielberg.

Thanks to all who attended for helping us share in this wonderful celebration of CINE’s first half century! We especially wish to thank History, whose generous support was instrumental in the success of the evening, and offer our gratitude to all of our sponsors — History, Henninger Media Services, Chubb, Discovery Communications, CNN and Kodak — for making the event possible.
